A practical guide to AI companion memory
Why does my AI girlfriend forget everything?
A detail can seem remembered in one conversation and disappear the next day. The useful question is where that detail was stored and whether the system can bring it back at the right moment.
The short answer
Recent chat context, saved long-term memories, and memory retrieval are different things. A companion may answer from the current chat without saving the fact for later. Even a saved fact can be missed if it is not retrieved for the next reply. No AI companion remembers every detail perfectly.
Three places a detail can be lost
1. It stayed in the recent chat
A model can use messages still in its current context. That does not mean the detail has been saved across sessions. Test again after a new session or several days.
2. It was never saved as a memory
Memory systems select what to keep. A passing remark may not be extracted, or a similar memory may be merged with it. Check the memory panel when the product offers one.
3. It was saved but not retrieved
A memory may exist yet fail to appear when the next reply is composed. Ask about a related topic naturally before assuming the fact was deleted.
Match the symptom to the next check
| What you notice | What to check |
|---|---|
| It remembers today, but not next week | Check whether the detail appears in saved memory; then try the same topic in a new session. |
| It recalls the topic but gets the date wrong | Inspect the saved wording. If editing is available, correct the date and test it later without leading the answer. |
| It recalls only after a strong hint | Record this as a partial recall, not a clean success. A useful memory should surface in a relevant conversation. |
A seven-day test you can repeat
Use one specific, low-risk detail. For example: “My sister visits next Thursday, and we plan to cook ramen.” This is an illustrative prompt, not a claimed SeedMira test result.
Day 1 — mention it once
Say the detail in an ordinary conversation. Save the date and exact wording in your own notes. Do not repeat it several times to force a memory.
During the week — check what was saved
If the app has a memory panel, see whether the important part was saved accurately. Do not edit it during the test unless you want to test memory controls separately.
Day 7 — ask naturally
Start a new conversation and bring up the related topic without supplying the answer: “Do you remember what we planned with my sister?” Record the first reply before giving hints.
Score the result honestly
Exact date and plan = full recall; only the visit or meal = partial recall; an invented or absent detail = failure. Repeat with other details before judging the whole product.
How SeedMira approaches this
SeedMira extracts selected long-term memories from conversations, deduplicates them, and retrieves relevant memories for later chats. You can inspect and manage saved memories in the relationship memory panel. This improves continuity, but it does not guarantee perfect extraction or recall. Relationship stages and proactive messages are separate features; neither proves that a particular detail was remembered.
Keep the test personal, not sensitive
Use a harmless event rather than a password, address, payment detail, or medical issue. You can edit or delete saved memories from the memory panel. Read the privacy policy for how account data is handled.

Start a conversation, record one harmless detail, and come back in seven days. Judge the first answer you receive, including any misses.
